we had a spam pic problem on Jezebel - Gawker nixed picture uploads and comments for a few days. Now unless youre a author or followed by a author of the blog then your comments go into grey (unfollowed and invisible)

First off is it Grey or Gray? I have seen both ways and Greyhound so I am confused there. And I believe they brought it back as a fix for the stupid ass burner with the NSFW gifs. That being said I thought we would be allowed to post pictures again and we can't so I am not sure if the new grey is permeant or not.

Grey and gray are similar to color and colour. Regional or national spellings.

unless youre jollowed by Jaslopnik or one of its authors - you get greyed on FP - in Oppo it wont affect us - Authors can post pictures but comments cant have pics in them atm.

To permanently ungrey them, follow them for Oppo. To ungrey the one comment, recommend (star) it.

What happens if I follow someone? Do I get notifications every time they do something, or is "follow" code for "un-gray this person?"

I'm happy to follow every person who deserves to be un-grayed, but only If I don't get spammed every time they comment/post.

Following them personally only means that they will show up in your private view as a followed commenter.

Following them for the blog does nothing in terms of how they will appear to you or in your private view.

When I click the little arrow next to your comment, I see two options: 1) "Follow Gamecat235" and 2) "Unfollow Gamecat235 for Oppositelock."

When I view grayed replies to my other comments, I only see one option: "follow username." I don't have the option to follow them for Oppositelock.

Does that mean that I am approved/ungrayed but lack the privilege to follow someone on behalf of Oppositelock, or am I missing something?

Are these comments on Oppo or on the front page? If the front page, then the only way to bring them out of the grey is to be a followed commenter yourself and either recommend or respond to them (note that at the moment, simply recommending their comment does not seem to bring them out of the grey).
